Sugestopedia Method :

Advantages                        : a. class setting make student relax

                                          b. make young learners get more confidence

                                          c. using music during the process of learning

                                                 

Disadvantages                   : a. Noisy class

                                          b. cannot applied in every school

                                          c. not suitable for every student

                                          d. she class only for 10-15 student

                                          e. difficult to practiced in development country like Indonesia

Silent way Method

Advantages                        : a. • Silent Way learners acquire

           b. • Creates a correctly, adequately working inter-language

           c. • The self-esteem of the students will be increased and this will  

                 enhance learning 

           d. • Learners gain practical knowledge and use of the target language

Disadvantages                    : a. Method should be used in small groups of students

           b. • The rigidity of the system may be meaningless.

           c. • How successfully it might be used at more advanced levels is

               questionable.

           d. • Language is separated from its social context and taught through

               artificial    situations usually by rods.

Grammar Translation Method(GTM)

Advantages                 : a. An effective way for application of grammar and sentence structure

                                   b. Few demands on teachers

                         c. Least stressful for students

Disadvantages             : a. Wrong idea of what language is

    b. Less learners’ motivation

    c. Create frustration for learners

ALM Method

Advantages                 : a. Based on specific method and an approach

                                    b. Paying attention speaking and Listening

Disadvantages             : a. less paying attention to comprehension,reading and writing

                                   b. descriptive rules

                                   c, less intraction

                                   d. Language is a habit

                                   e. Repeatation of practice and drill

Direct Method

Advantages                  : a. makes the learning of English interesting and lively by establishing direct

                                     bond between a word and its meaning.

                                     b. interaction between teacher and students

                                     c. can be usefully employed from the lowest to the highest class.

                                     d. Due to application of the Direct Method, students are able to

                                      understand what they learn, think about it and then express their own

                                      ideas in correct English about what they have read and learnt.

Disadvantages               : a, This method may not hold well in higher classes where the Translation

                                      Method is found suitable.

                                      b. grammar is closely bound up with the reader, difficulty is experienced

                                      in providing readers of such kind.

                                      c. not paid to reading and writing.

Community Language Learning

Advantages                : a. learning takes place in a communicative situation where teachers and

                                      learners are involved in an interaction.

                                  b. Learning is viewed as a unified, personal and social experience.

                                  c. The counselor allows the learner to determine the type of conversation

                                      and to analyze the foreign language inductively.

                                  d. cultural aspect of the target language learning is enhanced in that students

                                      are found to have freedom and high motivation in the community

                                      language learning class.

                                                 

Disadvantages            : a. Inductive learning in the early stage of language learning is not effective

                                      and less successful.

                                  b. The learners-teacher can become too non-directive

                                  c. communication under way in class is constrained by the number and

                                      knowledge of fellow learners.

TotaL Physical response Method

Advantages                : a. It is fun and easy. Students will enjoy getting up out of their chairs and

                                      moving around.

                                  b. It is good for  learners who need to be active in the class.

                                  c. It is a good tool for building vocabulary.

                                  d. Class size need not be a problem.

Disadvantages            : a. Whilst it can be used at higher levels TPR is most useful for beginners. It

                                      is also at the higher levels where preparation becomes an issue for the              

                                      teacher.

                                  b. Students are not generally given the opportunity to express their own

                                      thoughts in a creative way.

                                  c. teacher may find that it is limited in terms of language scope. Certain

                                     target languages may not be suited to this method.

                                  d. It can be a challenge for shy students

Communicative Language Teaching

Advantages                :a. the increase of fluency in the target language.

                                 b. enables the learners to be more confident when interacting with other

                                     people and they also enjoy talking more.

                                 c. interaction between students and teachers. Communicative teaching is

                                    becoming increasingly clear feature is the change in the way as the

                                    internship, students develop the subject, initiative and become increasingly

                                    important

                                d. Greatly enhanced the student’s interest.

                                e. The approach leads to gains in the areas of 

                                    grammatical/sociolinguistic/discourse/strategic competence through

                                    communication.

Disadvantages          : a. may also be a difficult method to use in very large classes, where it may

                                    be easier to monitor and guide students by adopting a more didactic

                                    approach.

                                b. Students with low levels of proficiency in the target language may find it

                                    difficult to participate in oral communicative activities and, if the exams

                                    used by an institution are grammar based, communicative fluency may not

                                    be appropriate.

                                c. Some people believe that with CLT there is a danger of focusing too much

                                    on oral skills at the expense of reading and writing skills, and that there

                                    may be too much focus on meaning at the expense of form. It is felt that

                                    there is not enough emphasis on the correction of pronunciation and

                                    grammar errors.
